LOST: Coopers Missing Ball

Here at Kats'N Us, our passion for pets drives our creativity. We start with over 200 distinct toys and components, but our true magic comes from mixing, matching, and creating new combinations, pushing our total variations to well over 300. We're especially inspired by customers who reach out with their unique ideas. And of course, all our newest creations must pass the ultimate test: approval from our three kitty staff members!

Both Cooper and Chester like to play with our Rabbit Fur Pom Pom Cat Teaser Wand. It is a wand toy we created with different colored Pom Poms on an elastic cord attached to a teaser wand. They play with it so hard, that sometimes one of the poms will come off, then they play with what's left on the wand.

I had the idea to make a new kind of toy. Instead of the usual pom-poms, I'd use our standard-size Tuff Puff Sparkle balls, stringing three colors together on a thinner elastic cord. I decided to hang one from a door handle to see how it worked. Then Cooper, just one-year-old at the time, with incredibly sharp baby teeth, found it. Before I knew it, he'd chomped right through the cord. A little white ball went missing, and the fun began.

It was just a tiny, white sparkle ball with a cord for a tail, but to him, it was everything. Over time and with so much affection, the white faded to a dull gray, and the cord grew frayed. With so much play, it would inevitably go missing, though it was certain he always knew exactly where it was. The ball was found everywhere: under the furniture, wedged beneath the stove, tucked behind the refrigerator, under or on the bed, or nestled near his food dishes. His favorite place for the game, however, was the bathroom. His ball was his treasure. He'd carry it around proudly, growling if his brother Chester came near.

I worried sometimes that the ball might be gone for good. Lots of places in the house to disappear in. New ones were offered, but they were met with utter rejection. Their newness made them foreign, wrong. The replacement sparkle balls were just imposters. After all our years, with the many cats we've had, I have never seen such a devotion to one single object, now faded to a dirty gray from so much love. It isn't just a toy; it's the ultimate joy of watching him play that brings us real happiness.
But tonight, the house is quiet. The hunt is on, and the sparkle ball is still missing.
